The present study was undertaken to understand the current situation of various maternal determinants which influence the birth weight of newborn in this part of country. Low birth weight has an adverse effect on perinatal life and beyond. Several maternal factors contribute to the birth weight. A community based cross sectional study on birth weight of new borns was conducted among pregnant women of Private and Government hospitals in Nalgonda, Telangana, India.
