Ceiba speciosa EXTRACTS: IN VITRO ANTICANCER SCREENING, PHYTOCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION, AND SUCCESSIVE SOLVENT EXTRACTION
Main Article Content
Abstract
The paper reports on sequential solvent extraction and use of in vitro bioassay screening to establish phytochemical
richness and anticancer potential of Ceiba speciosa. To obtain a variety of bioactive compounds an optimal procedure
extracting with solvents of various polarity was applied. The medical significant compounds such as flavonoid, phenolic
acids, saponins, and terpenoids were described through phytochemical using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography
(HPLC) and Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The radical scavenging assays were used in screening of
antioxidant potential, whereas, the anticancer functions in vitro were screened on a panel of human cancer cell line. All
the extracts particularly ethanol and methanol on any given dose level, showed considerable lethal effects which implies
that the inhibition of proliferation in cancerous cells is dependent on concentrations. The C. speciosa was tested
comparatively versus the conventional chemotherapeutic drugs being found to be good in bioactivity and to be a good
choice as a natural anticancer drug. These results provide evidence as to why phytochemical studies must be thorough
when it comes to production of plant derived medicines.
